IRIS Program

Hello from Sarina!

At Vanguard Health, we are committed to delivering quality across every aspect of healthcare. Through our ongoing work with Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory and Weipa, we continue to strengthen our programs and partnerships to ensure culturally safe and accessible care. As part of this commitment, we are proud to welcome Sarina to the team as our new Indigenous Eye Health Coordinator.

Sarina brings a wealth of experience and a deeply personal connection to her work. As she put in her own words:

“Hi Team, my name is Sarina, and I am the newly appointed Indigenous Eye Health Coordinator.

I have a background in nursing with over 15 years of experience across hospitals, both private and public, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and the aged care sector, with a strong passionfor palliative care nursing.

Prior to nursing, I worked as a mortician and funeral director’s assistant across the Midwest region of Western Australia, and have also spent time working within the prison system.

Originally from WA, I am of Nanda descent from my mother’s side and Malgana from my father’s side. I have been in Darwin for just over 12 months after relocating from Halls Creek in the Kimberley’s where I was the Practice Manager @ Yura Yungi Aboriginal Medical Service.

Being indigenous myself, I am passionate about All things Aboriginal Health and I have devoted myself in serving my people, advocating and helping them access better healthcare whist putting cultural safety at the forefront.

I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity, and I am looking forward to settling into the role.”

Sarina’s experience, leadership and commitment to culturally safe healthcare make her an invaluable addition to the Vanguard Health team. In her role, she will work closely with our programs, including IRIS, and travel alongside our clinical teams to help deliver essential eye care services to communities where they are needed most.

We are excited to have Sarina on board and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make across the communities we support.
